Upcycling Journals

We are learning how to be kaitiaki of papatūānuku.

We can reuse and recycle things so they don't end up in the landfill.

We made our own little journals out of old book.

We got some old books.

We ripped out some pages for our journal.

We chose some colourful paper for the cover.

I chose Purple.

We put some staples in it.

Look at my finished journal.

We love our journals.
We can draw in them.
We can reuse them.

Waka Building

We have been learning about how Mangonui got its name. We learnt that Moehuri was looking for a safe place to land and a big shark came to guide him past the rocks into the Mangonui harbour.

So that is how Mangonui got its name. Mango means shark. Nui means big.

In class we talked about how we could make a waka that would float. We tried out lots of different ideas in class. Then we made a plan and wrote a list of the materials we might need. On Thursday we made our waka.  Today we tested them in our pool. We found that most of our boats floated and a few tipped over. We had so much fun with this learning.
